The Little Things No One Tells You About Looking Put Together

Most women come to me for the clothes.

They want help with the pieces, the fit, the proportions, how to actually put an outfit together in a way that feels like them. That part matters. A lot.

What I’ve noticed, time and time again, is that even after we get all that right, there is still a moment where something feels not quite there.

It is not the outfit anymore.

It is everything around it.

We talk often about the difference between getting dressed and getting styled. While that absolutely includes your wardrobe, it does not stop there. Looking put together is not just about what you are wearing. It is about the level of intention you carry all the way through.

That does take a little effort. A little attention. Not perfection and not a full routine, but enough to make the whole picture feel complete.

For me, that looks like a few non-negotiables. I do not leave the house without mascara. I pay attention to my skin, not in a complicated way, just in a way that looks fresh and taken care of. My hair does not have to be perfect, but it does need to look intentional, even if that is a simple low bun.

The things we do not always say out loud matter too. A 10x mirror is one of them. It changes how you apply your makeup and helps you see the details you would otherwise miss. Staying on top of dermaplaning is not optional at this stage of life. It is part of maintenance. It keeps your skin looking smooth, helps your makeup look the way it should, and elevates your overall appearance.

This is not about doing more for the sake of doing more. It is about recognizing that style does not stop at your outfit. It is the final layer that brings everything into alignment.

Once you start paying attention to it, you will see it immediately. The shift is subtle, but it is there.

A few small adjustments, a little more intention, and everything starts to feel more complete.

So wear the socks. The pieces you love, the details you have been overlooking, the small things that finish the look. Do not wait for a special occasion to show up fully as yourself.

Where is your blue stripe dress from and how long have you owned it?

It’s a J.Crew dress that I’ve had for about a year. I actually found it at a local thrift shop, which is a reminder that great pieces don’t always have to come from traditional retail.

If you're going to change the look of it for dining out, how would you change your accessories?

For a casual spring or summer dinner, I would elevate the look by swapping the loafers for a kitten heel, a delicate thong sandal, or a closed-toe wedge. I’d keep the accessories simple and refined—perhaps a single strand of pearls with a coordinating bracelet.

If I could find a blazer in the same shade of blue, I would absolutely add it for a more tailored finish, though the look stands well on its own without it. I’d complete it with a soft, loose updo and a medium to deep red lip for a polished, effortless feel.

Speaking about dermaplaning, what is a favorite brand of razor that you use?

I currently use the Kitsch dermaplaning razors made from recycled plastic. They’re designed for a few uses before being replaced, which works well for at-home maintenance. I’m not particularly brand-specific, but I look for tools that are effective, simple, and easy to incorporate into a regular routine.

How long have you been dermaplaning?

I’ve been dermaplaning for a few years now. I do it myself at home and found it fairly easy to learn with a bit of research. It’s become a consistent part of my routine.

It seems to be getting more traction online…

It really has and for good reason. As we move into mid-life, it becomes more noticeable and more relevant. Dermaplaning is a simple way to maintain smooth skin and create a more refined base for makeup.

Once you see the difference it makes, both visually and in how your skin feels, it becomes one of those small details that’s hard to overlook. It’s one of those finishing touches that can make a noticeable difference in how polished everything looks.
